Financial Assistance for Hospice Care

Hospice is a program that is offered to people who are terminally ill. If you already have Medicaid you can enroll in the Hospice program. Florida Medicaid is offering this program for Hospice care to benefit some individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid because they are over the income limit.

To be considered for this program you must meet the following criteria. Please consult with a Hospice Agency for more detailed information.

  • 65 or older OR disabled (as determined by social security)
  • US citizen
  • Florida Resident
  • Qualify for Hospice
  • Monthly income for an individual is no more than $1911
  • Monthly income for a couple is no more than $3822
  • Total assets for an individual are no more than $2000
  • Total assets for a couple are no more than $3000

How much do I have to pay?

Under this program the patient still has to pay a ‘patient responsibility.’ The amount is your monthly income, minus the amount you are entitled to keep.

  • If you live in the community you keep $871 of your monthly income.
  • If you live in a nursing home you keep $35 for personal needs
  • If you are receiving SSI or are part of the MEDS-AD program you do not have a ‘patient responsibility.’

*Please consult with a Medicaid specialist as there may be certain circumstances which alter the above amounts.

What Does Medicaid Pay?

Medicaid will pay the difference between the patient responsibility amount as determined by Medicaid and the amount the Hospice agency charges.

If you already receive Medicaid benefits, you may choose to elect this Hospice program and do not need to re-apply. Please contact your current Hospice agency. You will need to apply through a local Hospice agency. Please search for Hospice agencies in your area by clicking on Hospice Care.
