Independent Living: Independent living communities are typically apartment-style living with on-site healthcare professionals. Residents are more independent and typically need very little assistance with activities of daily living. In independent living communities, you may find swimming pools, covered parking, and 24-hour emergency response services. Some provide ala carte services such as medication supervision, laundry, meals, and limited assistance with activities of daily living. Prices start at $1900 a month and go up depending on the services needed.

Assisted Living: Assisted living communities are designed to help individuals with activities of daily living. Assisted living communities vary in both size and level of care provided. They provide amenities such as restaurant-style dining with two or three meals daily, transportation assistance, an activity schedule, visiting medical professionals, and a focus on the social aspects of life. The standard care usually includes medication supervision, laundry, housekeeping, meal preparation, and assistance with personal hygiene. Prices start at $2600 month and go up depending on the level of care needed.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia: Alzheimer’s/dementia communities are designed specifically to care for residents who suffer from these diseases. This type of community can either be stand-alone or part of an assisted living community. In these communities, special consideration and accommodations are provided for residents medical condition and safety. Prices start at $3000 month and go up depending on the level of care needed.

Adult Family Care Home: A personal care home is typically a private residence that is usually licensed by the state. They are similar to assisted living communities in the care that is provided and their licensure, but in a homelike setting. This type of setting is unique in that it may provide a feeling of extended family. Prices start at $2000 a month and go up depending on the level of care needed.

Nursing Homes: Nursing homes provide the highest level of care without being in a hospital setting. In a nursing home, the resident will benefit from 24 hour care by a licensed nurse. Residents receive assistance with all activities of daily living, medication administration as well as specialized services. Healthcare services are provided in the nursing home depending on the individual’s needs and include physicians, physical therapists, psychiatrists, audiologists and dentists. Nursing homes are regulated and surveys are conducted yearly to ensure proper care is being provided. Prices start at $6500 month and up. Some nursing homes also accept state Medicaid.
