Depression is a common illness experienced by older adults. Nearly twice as many women as men are affected each year. It is serious but also very treatable. Depression is more complicated than simply having a bad day. Symptoms of depression include feeling sad or “empty”, sleeping too much or too little, change in appetite, loss of pleasure, restlessness or irritability, feeling guilty, hopeless or worthless, fatigue or lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, withdrawal from friends and family, or thoughts of suicide or death. |
Depression is real. Treatment is available. If you suspect you might be depressed, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. You can end the suffering.
