Parkinsons's patient with caregiver

Parkinson’s Disease is a slowly progressive disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, muscle control and balance. The symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease include:

- tremors, or trembling in the hands, arms, legs, jaw and or face;
- rigidity, or stiffness of the limbs;
- slowness of movements; and
- impaired balance and coordination

As the symptoms become more evident, people with Parkinson’s Disease have more difficulty with the simplest tasks of daily living such as walking and talking. Diagnosis is difficult. No cure exists, but treatment is available that offers relief from the symptoms.

More information about the disorder, its treatment, and organizations that can help is available at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke website.
