Seniors will find many activities ideal for baby boomers as well as older Americans to maintain an active lifestyle. Jacksonville offers a large zoo and gardens center as well as many parks, including Kinsley Plantation State Park – all great places for seniors to benefit from the natural environment and physical activity of walking.
Seniors in Jacksonville especially enjoy cultural activities to maintain an active senior lifestyle, such as a major symphony orchestra and local theater including the Alhambra Dinner Theatre and River City Playhouse. Art lovers appreciate the Cummer Museum of Art, MOCA- Museum of Contemporary Art and explore award-winning interactive exhibits at MOSH, The Museum of Science and History, Jacksonville’s most visited museum.
The Jacksonville Maritime Museum and sports and entertainment complex downtown are popular among the young and old. As the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, many sports fans flock to the area. Jacksonville was also host to the Women’s GA Senior/Super Senior Golf championship in January 2008.

More than 17,000 seniors have participated in special senior event programs for older adults in Jacksonville through a program the Mayor in Jacksonville has called, Mayor's Older Buddies Programs (MOB). The events include, senior bowling tournaments, safety seminars for older adults, senior expo’s, Jacksonville senior games and many more.
United Way of Northeast Florida has 4,085 seniors in Baker County utilizing their services to help seniors age in place – giving them the ability to maintain their current lifestyle and stay in their home.
Seniors in the central east region cities, such as Jacksonville, benefit from strong Adult Services Divisions with many programs for seniors. Over 20 senior centers located in the area offer various educational, cultural and social programs for older adults.
In addition, seniors enjoy joining a foster grandparent program for older adults who are at least 60 years old. Older adults help special needs children and at risk children by reading stories, participating in activities and just spending time together. Jacksonville also offers a retired senior volunteer program (RSVP), which currently has about 1,000 senior citizens volunteering in local communities.
